How to choose

  1. Check the planning certificate before you choose external products: heritage conservation area rules limit changes to the street front, and bushfire-prone land must meet Planning for Bush Fire Protection 2019.
  2. If the work is valued at A$50,000 or more, get the BASIX certificate first; it sets water, energy and thermal standards, so ask your builder or assessor which products it commits you to.
  3. Compare products by code, size, thickness and finish, not just by name, and ask for samples before you order.
  4. Ask whether the store offers a trade account if your builder is ordering for you.
  5. Compare factory-direct and Sydney retail prices with the material price comparison.

Why is AUD Build on this list?

AUD Build publishes this page and runs www.audbuild.net, an online materials platform with 3,600+ China factory-direct lines and close to 4,000 lines in Australian stock (27 October 2026). It has no store or showroom in these suburbs. It is listed last and marked “This is us”. Facts about the other twelve businesses come only from their own websites.

How this list was built

Selection: stores whose own store page gives an address in Pymble, Chatswood or Hornsby, the nearby suburbs used for Turramurra, Pymble, Killara, Lindfield and Roseville, drawn from Google Australia results for hardware, plumbing, tiles, kitchen, paint and flooring searches on 28 October 2026. No qualifying store page was found in Turramurra, Killara, Lindfield, Roseville or Gordon. Directories were used only to find names, never as sources. Stores whose websites blocked automated reading, and stores whose trading status or trade service could not be confirmed, are left out. Facts come only from each business’s own website, read on 28 October 2026; “Best for” is AUD Build’s editorial summary of those facts. Prices, reviews and award claims are not published, and street addresses are not given. The order is alphabetical, not a ranking. Ku-ring-gai Council’s website blocked automated reading, so heritage areas come from NSW Government spatial data and a captured copy of Council’s heritage page. AUD Build publishes this page; if a business’s details have changed, contact AUD Build and the page will be corrected.
